China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation: Advancing Space Technology
Since 1970, China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) has developed and delivered over 200 satellites of various types to users both domestically and internationally. These satellites cover a wide range of applications, including:
· Communications
· Navigation
· Remote Sensing
· Scientific Exploration
· Technical Testing
CASC has consistently achieved advancements in technical and application levels, delivering satellites with long life spans and high reliability that meet international advanced standards.
CASC plays a pivotal role in the Beidou Navigation Project, a major national scientific and technological initiative led by the Party Central Committee. Key highlights include:
· Satellite Development: Beidou navigation satellites are primarily developed by the Fifth Academy of CASC.
· Launch Vehicles: The Long March-3A series of launch vehicles are developed by the First Academy of CASC.
· Subsystem Contributions: Other units within CASC also contribute to important subsystems of the project.
Timeline of Beidou Development:
· 1994: Project inception.
· 2000: Completion of Beidou-1 system construction.
· 2012: Completion of Beidou-2 system construction.
· 2020: Beidou-3 global satellite navigation system construction completed, marking the success of the project’s “three-step” strategy.
With the successful implementation of the Beidou system, China has become the third country globally to independently own a satellite navigation system, now used by over 120 countries and regions worldwide.
CASC is also responsible for building the space-based system for China's high-resolution Earth observation program. Key milestones include:
· 2013: Successful launch of the Gaofen-1 satellite, signaling the start of full-scale construction of the Gaofen project.
· Capabilities: High-resolution satellites have significantly enhanced China’s Earth observation abilities, offering all-day, all-weather, global monitoring capabilities.
· Applications: Satellite data is widely applied in:
o Environmental protection
o Land and resources surveys
o Disaster prevention and mitigation
By 2020, the Gaofen project has established a stable operation system, ensuring space-time coordination and advanced observation capabilities.
