TRIPLE-JUNCTION GaAs SOLAR CELL 30%TJ80SCA

This specification specifies the technical requirements, test methods, acceptance and storage of30%TJ80SCA space application laminated triple-junction GaAs solar cell assembly (hereinafter referred
to as laminated cells). 30% refers to a typical photoelectric conversion efficiency of 30% for solar cells (AM0, 25°C ± 1°C, 135.3 mW/cm2, same below), TJ refers to three n/p junctions, 80 refers to a cell area of 79.8 cm2 and
SCA refers to a laminated cell with soldered interconnects, bypass diodes and pasted cover glass.

4. Technical requirements

4.1 Main requirements for each component
4.1.1 triple-junction GaAs solar cell
 The triple junction GaAs solar cell consists of a germanium (Ge) bottom cell, an indium gallium arsenic (InGaAs) middle cell and a gallium indium phosphorus (GaInP2) top cell connected in series, with an n/p cell structure.
 Typical photoelectric conversion efficiency is 30% and typical dimensions is 144.3mm x68.5mm x 0.24mm. 4.1.2 Cover glass
 The cover glass is made of radiation resistant cover glass with MgF2 film vapour plated
on the surface, the width of the edge defect of the MgF2 film due to tooling does not
exceed 0.5 mm and the total area of the defect does not exceed 5% of the total area of the
cover glass.
 Typical dimensions of the cover glass is 144.45mm x 68.65mm x 0.12mm. 4.1.3 Bypass diodes
 Bypass diodes use silicon diodes.
 In the absence of light and with an applied short-circuit current of 1.2Isc, the on-state voltage of the silicon diode is less than 1.0V.
 In the absence of light and with an applied -4V reverse voltage, reverse leakage current of the silicon diode is less than 10μA
 Typical dimensions are 17.3mm x 9.5mm x 0.19mm
4.1.4 Interconnecting pieces
 The interconnecting pieces are silver-plated interconnects with an outermost layer of
silver, 30μm±5μm thick, of which the silver is not less than 99.95% pure.
 The interconnecting piece has a strain relief ring which is intact and undamaged
 Interconnecting piece stress relief rings tested to fatigue without fracture.
 Typical dimension is 8.0mm x 6.5mm x 0.03mm. 4.2 Technical requirements for laminated cell
4.2.1 Appearance
The appearance of the laminated cell should be clean and free from pollution; the colour of the front of
the solar cell should be uniform and free from color difference, and there should be no residual glue on
the back; the solar cell interconnecting piece should be bright and free from discoloration. 4.2.2 Dimensions
The dimensions of the laminated cell are (without interconnecting pieces): length (144.45mm ±0.1mm) x width (68.65mm±0.1mm) x thickness (0.42mm ±0.05mm)
